The Pioneer Press reports that Gertens, the family owned garden center, based in Inver Grove Heights, has bought 80 acres from Buell’s Landscape and Design Center on Manning Avenue in Denmark Township.
The Buell’s land purchase is the latest in a long list of expansions for Gertens. In July, Gertens started building a $2 million, 2-1/2-acre state-of-the-art automated greenhouse south of its retail center. The company owns nearly 90 acres south of Interstate 494 and east of U.S. 52; it also leases land in Eagan for its yard-waste center.
Kathy Higgins, chairwoman of the Denmark Township board, said she is happy to hear Gertens is expanding to the township. She hopes a nursery retail center on the site will reopen soon. Plans also call for a yard-waste center to be operated on the site when the retail store opens, Lewis Gerten said.
