The Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal reports that developers are preparing to start building a Trader Joe’ store in Shoreview, the grocer’s first entry in the north metro. Venture Pass Partners — a group formed by developers Dave Carland, Jim Ottenstein and Randy Rauwerdink — paid $1.252 million for a 2.06-acre site at 1041 Red Fox Road, near Interstate 694 and Lexington Avenue. The seller was City and County Credit Union of St. Paul. Doors are expected to open in July.
Trader Joe’s has a half-dozen other stores in the Twin Cities already; the most recent opened this fall in Bloomington. But plans to move into Minneapolis’ Lyn-Lake neighborhood fell apart over zoning issues, and the grocer called off a project in Excelsior in December.
